I cannot believe time went so quickly, but one year ago today I released the Hotel of Bees shawl! You can read all about the inspiration for this design here.

It has been an amazing journey this past year and the response to this design has been so overwhelming. One year today I could not have guessed that it would become such a popular pattern. It really has given me more confidence in my designing and pattern writing abillities.

As it stands today it has more than 6000 favorites and almost 500 projects on Ravelry. There have been at least three CALs hosted by others (and myself too), which has been a lot of fun and allowed for more people to participate in making the shawl they would otherwise not have made.

If you would have told me all this one year ago, I would have never believed you. But it’s reality now, so thank you all for your amazing support!

The latest CAL was hosted by Sandra from Cherry Heart and Samantha from Betsy Makes. This last CAL was enourmous with over 700 participants and it has brought forth amazing variations of the same design.

In my last post I promised I would do a round up post of some of the beauties that have been made, so I will deliver on that promise now. What is a more fitting date to do so than today, right?

I will start with the shawls made by the hostesses of the last CAL

Sandra from Cherry Heart did not actually put up a full picture of the Hotel of Bees, but here you can see the colors. She made the shawl with variegated yarn and it looks lovely!

Samantha did a wonderful version really true to the story, also in handdyed yarn. It really looks awesome in one color 🙂

This is one of my favorites! Lindsey made this using parts of a gradient yarn and a solid white yarn in addition. Just beautiful!

Gewoon prachtig!

This one I like, because Gilly has been inspired by the colours of the cover of the book the shawl is inspired by (‘All the light we cannot see’, by Anthony Doerr). Now isn’t that an awesome idea!

Not only yellow and blue are used! Purple looks good too 🙂 I’m not sure what gradient yarn was used for this.

Now isn’t this an amazing combination of color! SO organic and earthy, just like real honeycombs. I could not have come up with this color combination myself. Good job Isabelle 🙂

Goede keus Isabelle 🙂

Another stunning gradient! Louise chose the colorway ‘tutti ‘o frutti’  of Scheepjes Whirl.
