Last monday I showed you all 15 of Marinke’s beautiful mandalas. As you’ve read I also made 5 of my own, based on memories and things she owned and used. If you follow me on instagram you’ve already seen them all together. In this post (and the next four) I’ll show them one by one, since there’s a story behind them all.

‘Gathering leaves’

Last year Marinke had a sudden craving to make shawls, one of which was the ‘gathering leaves’ shawl. I immediately fell in love with the yarn and the design. Such a beautiful piece to look at! It was my luck she gifted it to me for my birthday last year as a belated present. I didn’t mind waiting for this one 😉

Unfortunately it was too small to sit nicely around my neck. For the longest time I had it pinned on the wall in my craftroom, so I could still enjoy it’s beauty.

The days before the funeral we had to pick out what to wear. Since the dresscode was “Marinke liked colorful clothes”, I went with a stunning chiffon dress which bursted with all colors imaginable. I draped this shawl over my shoulders to compliment the dress, even though it was the hottest day of this whole year, I didn’t care. I wanted to wear it no matter what.

It hangs in my closet right now, but in time I will hang it on my wall again.
